(Calgary) Hon Deepak Obhrai, CPC Leadership Candidate, advocates new solutions for meeting Canada’s carbon target. Nuclear waste fuel would provide 1.5 billions of dollars into Canada’s economy and turn oil sands into a low carbon emitting industry.

This is not just the right solution for Canada, but a Made in Canada solution.

Hon Deepak Obhrai says carbon tax is NOT the solution for Canada! However, if we were to harness and recycle nuclear waste fuel from existing CANDU nuclear plants in Ontario, we could reduce the emissions from industries that output high carbon for their electricity needs.

Canadian technology and investment into Fast Neutron Reactors (FNRs) has given us an alternative energy that we could use to help our industries in Canada, not hurt them, while meeting our global carbon commitment, states Hon. Deepak Obhrai.  He adds, “harnessing this fuel and recycling it into a high producing energy source with a low carbon output, will also put more than 1.5 billion dollars’ worth of electricity into our economy.”

He continues to say that key industries across Canada, such as oil sands, manufacturing and logging would benefit from this solution.

At present, Canada needs to deal with 50,000 tons of highly toxic nuclear waste, which will take over 400,000 years to decay.

The FNRs employ incredible safety measures, such that if this technology was used in Fukushima, there would have been very little environmental impact.

The Hon. Deepak Obhrai has put video segments where he delves in-depth into this issue.

Please find links for Deepak’s video statement, Ask Deepak Segment, as well as a Fact Sheet with more information regarding nuclear fuel waste, and Fast Neutron Reactors (FNRs).
