Canadians have created more than one million jobs since November 2015

The Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey confirms Canadians created over 100,000 jobs in April — and more than one million since Nov. 2015. Canadians elected us on a plan to invest in the middle class and those working hard to join it, and that plan is working!

But the hard work is not done. It’s important that ALL Canadians be able to share in the growing prosperity. We will keep growing the middle class and supporting people working hard to join it.

Ramadan Mubarak!
As Muslims in Scarborough and around the world embark on a month of fasting, prayer and spiritual contemplation, I wish all participating Ramadan Mubarak. May we appreciate our blessings, and be generous to those in need.

Statement from Prime Minister Trudeau

Raising the Canada Child Benefit
We believe that hard-working families deserve to be able to provide the best start in life for their children, and the past Conservative government’s policy of sending cheques to millionaires wasn’t helping anyone. That’s why we introduced the Canada Child Benefit, which gives more money, tax-free, to mine out of 10 families.

Last year we tied the CCB to the rate of inflation so that families don’t fall behind as life gets more expensive, and in July, the CCB is increasing again. Since 2015, nearly 300,000 children have been lifted out of poverty thanks in part to the CCB, giving us the lowest level of poverty in Canada‚Äôs history.

Our plan is working, and we’ll keep focused on helping families that need it most.

Supporting Scarborough’s Seniors
We need to make sure seniors are aware of all the services that are available to them, and at a recent town hall at Jack Goodlad Senior Citizen Housing, representatives from CRA and Service Canada were on hand to answer questions from residents. If you’re a senior with questions about the federal programs that are available to you, please contact our community office.

Scarborough celebrates Easter
I had the privilege of attending several Easter celebrations last month. Thank you to Pastor Mitch Sylvia and the Parkway Bible Church for hosting the Scarborough Centre Multifaith Council’s Easter Dinner — it’s always wonderful to break bread together! Thank you also to the congregations of St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church and the Church of St. Jude Wexford for welcoming me for Easter service. I hope all that celebrated Easter in Scarborough had a peaceful and joyful Easter with family and loved ones.

Statements by MP Salma Zahid
LANGUAGE IN TERROR THREAT REPORT UPDATED TO REFLECT FEEDBACK, CONCERNS RAISED BY MUSLIM COMMUNITY — I am pleased to report that, on Monday, April 29th, an updated version of the 2018 Public Terror Threat Report was released by Public Safety Canada, following concerns with the original language raised by myself and other members of the Muslim community.
STATEMENT REGARDING THE RECENT EXECUTIONS BY THE GOVERNMENT OF SAUDI ARABIA — I strongly condemn in the strongest possible terms the recent execution of 37 people by the government of Saudi Arabia, and I am deeply disturbed by this gross violation of the norms of international human rights.
STATEMENT ON EASTER SUNDAY TERROR ATTACKS IN SRI LANKA — On Easter Sunday, a holy day for those of the Christian faith, it is saddening to learn of the acts of violent terror in Sri Lanka that targeted members of the Christian community while they practiced their faith in peace.
