The Diversity Expo and the Transformation Awards gala, held on Friday, June 26th at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, were a monumental success. The two events brought together business, community, as well as public sector leaders and innovators to discuss issues that affect our diverse communities, proffer solutions to challenges as well and to celebrate leadership, excellence and diversity. Presented by Silvertrust Media, the Transformation Institute For Leadership & Innovation in association with the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, this year’s expo and gala reflected the best of what we have to offer in harmony.

The 2015 Transformation Awards gala featured a red carpet reception, a sumptuous dinner, multicultural entertainment, inspiring recipients, high profile presenters, a classy ceremony and youth from the Crossover Mentorship Program as well as the YMCA Leadership Program and TAIBU Community Health Centre. Entertainment was by Canadian Idol star Toya Alexis, Jadoo Bollywood Dance Troupe and Carolyn Hao who won the 2014 CPAC’s Summer Talent Competition. Gloria & Ricardo McRae of Wedge 15 hosted the gala.The VIP cocktails reception was at 6.00 PM; dinner and awards at 7.00 PM and the event ended at 10.30 PM as scheduled.

“This year was the best ever for both the Diversity Expo and the Transformation Awards. With laser-sharp focus on leadership, excellence and innovation through cross-cultural integration, the project’s mission is to inspire, transform, empower, showcase, celebrate and integrate various elements of our heritage for a more perfect mosaic was experienced firsthand.

The 2015 recipients include Dr. Steve Gupta, President & CEO, Easton’s Group of Hotels, Innovation Award; Kevin Graff, President & CEO, Graff Retail, Leadership Award; Christine E. Williams, Vice President, Scotiabank, Heritage Award; Jeremy Diamond, Partner, Diamond & Diamond Lawyers, Enterprise Award; Scott Haldane, President & CEO, YMCA Canada, Lifetime Achievement Award; RahulBhardwaj, President & CEO, Toronto Foundation, Harmony Award; and Safia Ahmed, Executive Director, Rexdale Community Health Centre, Development Award.

Furthermore, William Onuwa, Senior Vice President, Royal Bank of Canada, received the Professional Excellence Award; Albert Wong, Citizenship Judge & ADC to the Lieutenant Governor, Public Service Award; Paritosh Mehta, Director, Independent Productions, OMNI Television, Media Award; Ricky Veerappan, Inspector, York Regional Police, Community Service Award; and Millie Knapp, President, Knapp Media, Entertainment Award. The theme of the 2015 gala was, “Nothing Is Impossible.” The recipients are profiled in a special issue of Diversity Magazine. The next Transformation Awards gala will hold in the spring of 2016.
