Thousands of protesters angry over Donald Trump’s election win have been on streets for almost a week now with demonstrationsworsening into riots. Protestors have been expressing their anger against the business tycoon turned president-elect who has been democratically elected through a fair election with the other contestant Hillary Clinton conceding defeat in the most graceful manner. Many didn’t believe Trump would win. Major media houses like The New York Times and CNN predicted Hillary Clinton had over 80 percent chance of winning. However, good or bad the result may be –Donald Trump is here to stay.

The protestors have their reasons. Accusing Trump of racism, sexism and xenophobia, protesters across United States blocked traffic and chanted slogans like “Not my president” and “We reject the president-elect”. One of the worst incidents was in the northwestern city of Portland, where protesters hurled projectiles at officers, smashed car windows, vandalized shops and thus affecting business. Accepting protests of such a magnitude was unheard of the US and were least expected, leaving the world amazed. President Elect Donald Trump had taken the campaign to an extent where he revealed his traits that left many dazzled. Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” didn’t appeal to many as they felt America was great always and Trump’s use of “again” left some offended while others felt belittled.

What now? None complained. The election was not rigged. Americans will have to go with the fact that Trump won. Come January- He would be leading United States.  Response to the protest from President Elect Donald Trump in the forms of tweets was troublesome too. The immediate reaction was that of a leader who had no concern whatsoever with the situation. He tweeted: “Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!”Calling protestorsprofessional! Perhaps those who voted for him-would he call them professional voters? He himself was one of the “professional protestor” in 2012, when President Obama was re-elected Donald Trump had taken to Twitter:  “We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!” Perhaps someone in his team reminded Trump of his earlier misendevours and in his second tweet Trump showed a little discretion.

“Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!” President Obama had reassured the voters saying he believed Donald Trump was sincere about being a “president for all Americans”. President Obama advised President Elect Donald Trump, to reach out to the people who felt anxious. Anxiety has been there ever since Donald Trump launched an explosive rhetoric campaign including women and minorities.

Not only are a certain section of Americans concerned, but world leaders too. Donald Trump had called NATO “obsolete” during his campaign. Again President Obama had to come to the rescue. Obama reassured the world leaders through his address, “In my conversation with the president-elect he expressed  great interest in maintaining our core strategic relationships and, so, one of the messages I will be able to deliver is his commitment to NATO and the transatlantic alliance.”

On the other hand, Donald Trump continued his rhetoric. In an interview with a Canadian TV channel, Trump stated that he still has every intention on building the wall between US and Mexico, however this time he scaled down-From the wall to a fence. Trump stated that he would be okay with a fence “an idea being floated by a number of republicans”.  Deporting immigrants has been another contagious issue and this time too Donald Trump preferred to stick to the guns. Trump reaffirmed his position on deporting undocumented immigrants. He re-affirmed that his government will immediately deport illegal immigrants engaged in criminal activity, which he estimates to be around two or three million.“We are getting them out of this country or we’re going to incarcerate them,” he said.As for immigrants without criminal records who are residing in the U.S. illegally, many of whom are likely “terrific people,” Trump said he will make a future determination on that once the border is secure.

President of United States is perceived as the most important, most powerful person in the world. His one statement defines politics, changes economics and is expected to be rationale, balanced and keeping a good control over his plans. However, Donald Trump’s vision of United States still is behest of hatred, division and fear. This is not the United States that was envisaged by Americans.
