To celebrate the thriving Punjabi film industry in the country, the UK hosted the first ever Punjabi Film Awards in Birmingham on May 12.

Some of the leading stars from the Punjabi film industry were present at the function, hosted by BritAsia TV, the UK’s leading Asian entertainment channel.

Tony Shergill, CEO of BritAsia TV said the achievement and milestone moment belongs to all Punjabis around the world. He said, “We will continue to work harder for 2019, which may take place in London.” The ceremony was hosted by Punjabi superstar, Jasmine Sandlas, who also performed alongside Harrdy Sandhu, Sharry Mann, UK born Gurj Sidhu and Sunanda Sharma later in the evening.

The audience was blown away by a special performance by celebrated Punjabi singer and superstar Satinder Sartaaj and the appearance of actor and singer Gippy Garewal.

“I am extremely overwhelmed. It’s the first time these awards are happening in the UK, and I really appreciate that. Being a part of international cinema, and being a part of the history of Sikhism with The Black Prince, it is really honourable for me,” said Sartaj, who was given the Outstanding Achievement Award.
