Brampton, ON: Are you between the ages of 15-24 years and have ideas to improve your community? Do you feel strongly about how youth requirements should be considered when your City plans programs and services? You could be the person Brampton is looking for!

The City of Brampton is looking to appoint three youth members to its new Age-Friendly Brampton Advisory Committee. Youth reps, along with other citizen members of the Committee and community agency members, will advise on how to make the city more age-friendly for everyone, with an emphasis on youth and seniors.

Areas of focus will include:
 ensuring public transportation is accessible and affordable
 improving participation in leisure, social, cultural activities
 promoting respect in civic life
 expanding opportunities for employment and volunteerism
 engaging people with easier communications
 effectively planning public spaces and buildings

“Brampton is home to one of the youngest populations in Canada with a median age of 34 years. We value the role that our youth play in helping shape the future of Brampton,” said Mayor Linda Jeffrey. “The new Age-Friendly Committee is a great way for our youth to help shape a strong, inclusive and engaged Brampton for people of all ages. Together, with our youth, we can disrupt the status quo and build a better Brampton!”

Being a member of this committee would mean a time commitment of up to 10 hours per month until November 2018 for evening meetings and other activities. High school students could use this committee appointment opportunity towards their mandatory volunteer hours.

Those wishing to participate in this new committee may contact the City Clerk’s Office at 905.874.2115. Application forms are available online and at City Hall and are accepted until April 7, 2017.
