The ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has  distanced itself from the Sexist remarks made by BJP leader Vinay Katiyar about Priyanka Gandhi with Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu calling them “totally unacceptable,” ANI reported.

Vinay Katiyar  said he didn’t think Priyanka was a ‘star campaigner’ for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls because “there are other campaigners who are far more beautiful than her.” Although Priyanaka later laughed off his remarks and and said they exposed the BJP’s “mindset towards women”. Her husband Robert Vadra said he was shocked by the BJP leader’s “misogyny.”

Naidu was also critical of Janata Dal (U) leader Sharad Yadav who effectively said the the honour of a vote is more important than the honour of a woman. And Sharad Yadav, who has made sexist remarks about South Indian women in the hallowed chambers of the Parliament,  had this to say about the honour of a vote during a speech: “The honour of being able to cast a vote is a much bigger honour than your daughter’s honour.” The Rajya Sabha MP then explained his comment, saying if a daughter’s honour is violated, her neighbourhood and her village lose their honour, “but if a vote is sold, it is the country’s honour that goes.” If that happens, all “our dreams for the future” totally evaporate, he said.
