Bangladesh crushed Afghanistan by 105 runs in their opening match Manuka Oval, Canberra. Chasing 268, Afghanistan were bundled out for 162 in 42.5 overs. Bangladesh pacers- Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain bowled fantastic spell upfront to keep Afghanistan out of contention.
After watchful start by Bangladeshi opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque, Afghanistan pacers Mirwais Ashraf and Shapoor Zadran scalped quick wickets to leave Bangladesh tottering at 119 for four inside 30 overs. After 47 for 0 Bangladesh lost four wickets in space of 72 runs.
Shakib Al Hassan and Mushfiqur Rahim shared a 114-run stand for the fifth wicket between them to help Bangladesh recover from the initial slumps. During this partnership the duo completed their respective fifties as well. Courtesy this partnership Bangladesh managed to post competitive total of 267 on board. During his innings of 63, Shakib became the first Bangladeshi batsman to cross 4000 runs in ODIs.
Three for three in three overs: Afghanistan got off to a worst possible start and after three overs they were reduced to three for three. Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain picked three wickets in first three overs of Afghanistan innings. Mortaza struck twice during this period.
