The City of Brampton formally launched the first ever Asset Management Training and Innovation Centre in Canada. Endorsed by the internationally recognized Institute of Asset Management (IAM), Brampton City Hall is now an IAM-approved training and exam venue. The certification courses offered will advance the science and practice of asset management, which is critical for all municipalities nation-wide. Course details are available on
www.brampton.ca/CAM
There is an increased regulatory focus on improved asset management planning in Ontario
municipalities. However, less than 5 per cent of the 444 Ontario municipalities have the staff capacity to
internally develop or implement asset management plans. The City of Brampton is supporting the
Federal Innovation Agenda by taking this initiative to help the municipal sector not only in Ontario but
across Canada to advance their asset management planning processes.
Having an asset management training center right here in Brampton will not only enhance the asset
management capabilities of City of Brampton’s staff, but it will also establish Brampton’s reputation as a
national leader in asset management.
City of Brampton’s Corporate Asset Management Office:
In 2016, the City of Brampton established the Corporate Asset Management Office and also formalized
a Corporate Asset Management Plan. The City has approximately $5.1 billion in assets, excluding
land. All assets have a useful service life and it is vital that these assets are managed carefully in order
to maintain the required level of service in the most cost-effective manner. The Corporate Asset
Management Plan provides a framework to a tactical and strategic plan for managing the City’s
infrastructure, and other assets.
The City’s Corporate Asset Management Plan demonstrates:
 That Corporate-wide Levels of Service are being met in an effective and efficient manner;
 That due regard is being given to the long-term stewardship and sustainability of the asset base;
 Responsible management of the asset portfolio;
 Justifiable funding requirements; and
 Commitment that assets will be maintained in compliance with regulations.
Quotes:
“Through the launch of its Asset Management Training and Innovation Centre, Brampton is one of
leading municipalities in the world in the adoption of Asset Management. The IAM is delighted to be
supporting this initiative through the approval of Brampton as an IAM Exam Centre.”
– Mr. Richard Edwards, President, Institute of Asset Management
