The death of IAS officer DK Ravi, 35, who was on Monday found hanging in his southeast Bengaluru flat in mysterious circumstances snowballed into a major controversy, as the state government locked horns with the opposition and civil society members who alleged foul play.
Amidst rising public anger over the mysterious death of upright IAS officer DK Ravi, several IAS officers in Karnataka have signed an online petition addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a CBI probe into the matter but the government in Karnataka has so far refused to buzz and maintained that a CID probe was sufficient.
“This is not a case to be handed over to CBI,” Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah maintained. However, a signature campaign was being undertaken by “Uttishta Bharatha”, a voluntary trust, which has created the online petition in which 13.58 lakh people have so far signed, the Trust said.
The officer was said to have been in the thick of preparations to continue with his raids on builders and other business classes over their tax evasions. As Additional Commissioner of Commercial Tax (Enforcement), Ravi had raided over 20 firms, including builders, jewelers, exporters and a bank, and recovered about Rs 106 crore tax dues.
