Amitabh touches Gandhi’s feet in London

Just like always, the actor took to Twitter to share it with his followers. The occasion was the unveiling of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in London. Amitabh graced the event with his presence. A magnificent bronze statue of bapu now stands at Parliament Square in London. Amitabh was one of the personalities to attend the unveiling of the statue, and shared the precious moments on Twitter, “A moment in history – the unveiling of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square, London, and invited to read from his work…At the unveiling the respect and dignity given .. so humbling. David Cameron, Arun Jaitley, Gopal Gandhi and self on stage ! Honour… My 4th visit to historic 10, Downing Street.. the meeting with the PM of GB, and walking with him and other dignitaries to event !”

Others who were present at the event were- Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi who is also the former governor of West Bengal.  The statue has been built to mark 100 years since Gandhi returned from South Africa to India and then started the struggle for independence. The masterpiece is 2.7 meter (9 ft) tall and has been crafted by a British sculptor Philip Jackson. Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust raised more than £1 million for the purpose.
