After ten failed years, Harper’s platform offers more of the same

MONTREAL – After ten failed years, the Conservative platform released today offers more of the same from Stephen Harper.

“Stephen Harper has had ten years to get our economy moving and he has failed. His plan for moving ahead is more of the same. It is clear that he has fallen out of touch with our middle class, and does not see the frozen incomes, the rising cost of living, and the disappearing jobs,” said Liberal candidate for Markham—Thornhill, John McCallum. “The Conservative platform released today confirms Harper has not changed. He has run out of ideas.”

“After the Harper decade, people want real change that will make a difference in their lives now – not years from now,” said Liberal candidate for Honoré-Mercier, Pablo Rodriguez. “Canadians are tired of Stephen Harper’s failed plan that gives billions in benefits to the wealthiest few and does nothing to help the middle class.”

Harper’s economic failures:

  • Unemployment jumped to 7.1 percent last month, and 62,000 full-time jobs were lost;
  • Harper has the worst economic growth record of any Prime Minister since R.B. Bennett in the depths of the Great Depression; and
  • Harper’s policies benefit the wealthy while letting the middle class fall behind.

“Only Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada are ready with the strong leadership and plan to create jobs by investing in transit and roads; put more money in the pockets of parents each month; raise taxes on the wealthiest one percent, and cut them for our middle class – now,” said Liberal candidate for Ahuntsic–Cartierville, Mélanie Joly.
