OTTAWA – Conservative Foreign Affairs Critic Tony Clement, and Senator Yonah Martin, joined with more than 200 supporters of Canadian Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim, calling for his prompt release in North Korea.

At a press conference today, Clement presented a http://change.org/ petition signed by more than 165,000 people in Canada and around the world calling for Rev. Lim to be set free. They were joined by members of Rev. Lim’s Light Presbyterian Church and Korean-Canadian community leaders, who came to the Hill to seek support and pray for Rev. Lim’s freedom.

“We come together today with one voice and with one purpose, to work towards bringing Rev. Lim home to his family, his community and to his country. The sentence delivered to Rev. Lim has generated reaction around the world, and thanks to this petition, the multitude of voices is being heard. Today, we are offering our full support and encouragement to the Government of Canada in its efforts to free this beloved Pastor and citizen of Canada,” said Clement.

“So many people – from North America to Europe and Asia – have been moved by Reverend Lim’s story and his dedication to helping those in need,” said Richard Ha, spokesperson for the Light Presbyterian Church. “We are humbled and grateful for this support and hope the international community, as well as our government, will continue to press for his swift return home.”

Along with the press conference and prayer vigil on Parliament Hill, members of Rev. Lim’s congregation met with Leader of the Official Opposition, Rona Ambrose, who offered the full support of the Conservative caucus in the effort to bring Rev. Lim home.
