Mumbai terror attack mastermind and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed was formally charged with terror financing at an antiterrorism court in Gujranwala. The court had ordered the counter terrorism department (CTD) of Punjab police to file a complete chargesheet against Saeed. Hafiz Saeed, a UN designated terrorist, was presented before the ATC court in Gujranwala, some 80 km from Lahore, amid tight security. As per reports, the CTD had declared Saeed “guilty” of terror financing in its chargesheet. He, however, added that the case had been transferred to another court following prosecution’s request. “Since the case is related to Mandi Bhauddin district of Punjab, the prosecution requested the court to shift it to Gujrat antiterrorism court,” he said, adding that the next hearing of the case will be held in the Gujrat ATC.
On July 17, Saeed was travelling to Gujranwala from Lahore to get pre-arrest bail in terror financing cases registered against him when he was arrested. Saeed is being kept at the Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore in high security. The CTD on July 3 had registered 23 FIRs against 13 JuD leaders, including Saeed, on the charges of terror financing in different cities of Punjab province.
